The Magazine Printing Company will be the first UK company to take delivery of the new Stahlfolder CH66, a cost effective combination folder that was unveiled this year.
Last year the Enfield magazine printing house made its first move from Shoei to Stahl folding with a Stahfolder KH56 and chairman Tony Stokes says it has been enormously productive. The CH 66 replaces a second Shoei Star.
‘Heidelberg finishing equipment has come on by leaps and bounds. When we replace our ten-station saddlestitcher and 16-station perfect binder in the future we will certainly look at what it has to offer. The performance of the first Stahlfolder has been very, very good. It’s so productive. Having these smaller B2 folders with a pallet feeder means we can take work straight off the press,’ he said.

The company produces 300 plus magazine titles from 1000 to 15,000 and with an average run of 5000. This means that its folders must have a quick set up and be easy to use by semi-skilled staff and here the Stahlfolder CH 66 technology is ideal.
The CH 66 can handle sheets of 660 x 1040 mm (minimum 140 x 180 mm) and can run parallel fold work at up to 200 metres per minute.
The BH/CH series of folders are lower cost than the TH/KH buckle/combination equivalent machines and have a slightly lower mechanical speed. The new machines are modular, automated and have an easy to use and intelligent graphic user interface, MCT Control Technology. The Magazine Printing Company has selected the pallet feeder but the folders can also be supplied with flat pile or round continuous feeders.
