Bell & Bain has switched from tins to technotrans’ bulk ink pumping with the installation of its KBA 142-8 long perfector. The company handles educational, scientific and commercial bookwork and for some titles, especially the prestigious coffee table publications it produces, there can be heavy ink coverage and pumped ink is a real advantage.

‘When you are printing four colours each side it is labour intensive to keep the ducts filled up so ink pumping relieves the pressure and allows operators to get on with other tasks. The ducts are cleaned weekly and the nozzles once a month but the system is very low maintenance,’ said Scott Hill, print manager of the Glasgow plant.
The installation and pipework was installed quickly and easily and the system is running 24 hours a day, seven days a week using standard inks supplied in 200 kg drums by KBA.
Peter Benton, managing director of Technotrans, commented: ‘Bulk inking is very much easier to handle than tins or cartridges, creates less mess and reduces the risk of skinning and remnant waste. Today’s press technology is extremely productive and to minimise downtime and maximise output having ink pumping is common sense. This system at Bell & Bain is for conventional ink but we can now also offer bulk systems for efficiency in UV ink applications.’
