God of Carnage

Trinity Theatre, Tuesday 26 April to Saturday 30 April

One child hits another with a stick - and their parents' worlds fall apart...

In her excruciating comedy about modern parenting, the award winning playwright Yasmina Reza explores how a spat between two children snowballs into a full on battle, as their parents meet up to ‘talk it through’. What begins as an adult attempt to defuse the situation spirals further and further downwards – through shouting, tears, vomiting, drunkenness and violence – into domestic catastrophe... with hysterical results!

God of Carnage won both an Olivier and a Tony award for Best Play and received rave reviews – and TTC's version is an edgy, highly wrought and hilarious production of this modern classic. ‘It is a family comedy with bite,’ director Caroline Elliott explained. ‘This is a must see show for anyone who likes Alan Ayckbourn or Edward Albee – or, of course, Reza's own play Art! We see two couples, with the best of intentions, descend into a vitriolic, alcohol fuelled mess – and it is so horribly plausible. I think anyone who has ever been a parent will see something here to recognise. We have spent time in rehearsals sharing our own family stories and scandals, and there are moments when the play makes us wince – or at least it would, if it wasn't so funny.’

Don't miss this brilliant satire – perfect for anyone who has ever been a parent...or a child!
