Ancient Egypt or Japan?

On August 7 2016 between 11 am and 4 pm, the whole family can enjoy a fun day whilst learning about the fascinating life of the ancient Egyptians, at Chiddingstone Castle this summer.

The event will also leave plenty of time to explore the remarkable collection of Egyptian antiquities inside the castle.

During the day everyone can take an imaginary journey down the River Nile when they enter the ‘Fields of Eternity’ ancient Egyptian themed grass maze garden (journeys at 11 am and 2 pm).

At 1 pm there will be a fun talk – ‘An A to Z of ancient Egypt’ and throughout the day there will be the chance to handle real ancient Egyptian objects and chat with an international Egyptologist and the castle’s own curator.

All these activities are included in the usual admission price: £9 adults, £4 children (5 to 13), Under 5s free. Everyone is welcome – even the dog!

A second fun filled family day at the castle will include some traditional Japanese storytelling – known as Kamishibai – on 21 August 2016 between 12 pm to 4 pm.

This will link with the remarkable collections of Japanese Samurai armour and swords and the beautiful collection of Japanese lacquerware inside the castle.

And for something completely different – why not go and meet the friendly, adorable Shetland ponies from 12 noon to 4 pm.

All of these activities are free with usual castle admission.
