The ‘Jewel of Kent’
Kent based designer Marian Boswall Landscape Architects has been shortlisted in the prestigious Society of Garden Designers (SGD) Awards for The Sundial Garden at Hole Park, a beautiful private estate in Rolvenden, Kent.
Known as the Jewel of Kent, Hole Park is set in 15 acres of gardens plus beautiful bluebell woods.

Marian’s work at Hole Park over the last seven years has focused on careful renovation and replanting of specific areas. Working with the family and head gardener Quentin Stark, her planting designs are found in the Walled Garden, the Millennium Garden and Private Garden, but it is the recently redesigned and replanted Sundial Garden that has been shortlisted for the SGD Awards.
Her stunning planting including roses, buddleja, astrantia and veronicastrum are set off by a sun inspired brick and tile centre piece by local craftsmen; a fabulous mosaic of the Barham Bear by Maggie Howarth and a bespoke Gaze Burvill seat with Barham Bear detail. The gardens are open to the public from March to October and include a long border designed by Christopher Lloyd.
Marian said, ‘It is a great honour to be shortlisted alongside designers Arabella Lennox-Boyd and Andy Sturgeon. These large gardens are very much a team effort and in recognising the design we also celebrate the craftspeople, contractors, nurseries and gardeners who work so hard to bring the designs to life and maintain them into the future.’
The shortlisted garden has now been entered in the People’s Choice Award and is a contender for the ‘Grand Award’. Details of how to vote for the People’s Choice Award can be found at www.sgdawards.com
