A brilliant time at the new Hollywood Bowl

DwnTWn goes bowling
Following the completion of its £500,000 refurbishment and rebrand, the new Hollywood Bowl (previously the Bowlplex) in Tunbridge Wells, is well worth a visit.
The DwnTWn team went along to explore the new facilities and we were certainly ‘bowled over’!
Wow! The facilities have really been upgraded and the whole place is warm, welcoming and exciting. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful (thank you especially to Claire who really looked after us).

With 24 lanes, that can be pre-booked, and the ability to bowl in your own shoes (so long as they are flat and soled), the Hollywood Bowl is the perfect venue to enjoy a day out (or afternoon, or evening!).

The Hollywood Bowl now also includes a themed diner within the centre itself, serving a good selection of yummy burgers, hotdogs, mega plates of sharing nachos (very tasty), super dooper milk shakes – and salads if you do want to be more health conscious.
There is also a kid’s menu – and the whole experience is very child friendly.

As well as the bowling, there is now also a virtual reality gaming area, with different experiences to try. The team (or some of us) had a go on all of them and they were thoroughly enjoyable – though the faint of heart should not attempt the hospital escape one.

The experiences include:
Argyle Shift 13+
Set in AD 2145, players have the opportunity to pilot a giant robot and are responsible for delivering a vital package to defeat the enemy. You are guided through operation and control by a co-pilot.
Fear of Heights 13+
Players are tasked with walking down a virtual plank atop a skyscraper, to rescue a cat. Sound simple? Well, yes and you know that the plank is only inches off the floor, but when you are in the virtual world, the mind plays tricks. The details are incredible, and the atmosphere makes you feel that you really are standing on a skyscraper miles in the air.
Hospital Escape Terror (two to four players) 15+
Set in a disused hospital, players are trying to find their way out. One is then kidnapped and the race is on to save their partner! Only the bravest team members attempted this one, and although they came through okay, there is gore and a frightening atmosphere – so be warned.
The Hollywood Bowl advises booking for these experience, as they are popular –sessions can be booked either by calling on 0844 4770 496 or at the centre itself. Great to add on to your bowling experience!
The bar area has also been completely updated and there is also a large space
where you can play pool. Six new pool tables have been installed as part of the refurbishment.

Overall, we had an absolutely brilliant time – and would highly recommend the Hollywood Bowl to others. Take some time for a family experience, or to go with friends, or try one of the Christmas party packages with colleagues. Well worth a visit – you’ll enjoy it!
DwnTWn will definitely be back again – let the good times roll!

The Hollywood Bowl was officially opened on November 14 by none other than Marilyn Monroe!
