Leeds general commercial printer Angus Print expects to achieve return on investment in under a year on its new IFS supplied Horizon SPF/FC 200L bookletmaker capable of landscape feeding.

A broader range of services and increased capacity are the reasons for the anticipated fast payback states John White, owner of the operation that counts the NHS and Leeds Beckett University as well as agencies among its clientele. Angus Print produces litho work on a five colour Komori B2 and a two colour Ryobi B3 press and digital on a Konica Minolta Bizhub press.

‘Five years ago we moved premises and away from film to CTP,’ stated owner John White. ‘Then earlier this year we invested in the five colour press with new workflow and CTP. Since then we have been improving our automation.’

John continued, ‘We have also seen job run lengths decrease and so needed a solution that was easy and fast to set up. With the Horizon we can interrupt longer runs for short turnaround work as well. Offering landscape as standard opens up market opportunities for us too – it is something our older system just couldn’t do.’

The Horizon SPF/FC 200L, combines all the highly automated features of the successful SPF/FC200A bookletmaker with the ability to feed A4 landscape sheets up to 640 mm in length.

‘We can now be more cost effective with production and that makes us more competitive in the market place,’ added John. ‘We can complete more jobs and we are slicker and more flexible too. For example we ran a ten set magazine which has a 16,000 run every five weeks. This took us six hours whereas beforehand it would have taken two days!’
