North west based Boss Direct has invested in its fifth digital production press from Konica Minolta, a move designed to bring additional capacity for digital print and also meet increased demand for its growing specialised calendar business.

The company, which offers both litho and digital print services, has enjoyed significant growth over the past two years.

‘This latest acquisition marks another step in our endeavour to become a leading supplier to business. We now employ over 70 people and we are continuously investing in technology and people to provide our customers with an unrivalled product and service,’ said Danny Baldwin, print sales director.

He added, ‘This latest machine fits perfectly within our current digital set up and will enable the department to both increase production capacity and boost print quality. The C1100 is capable of handling jobs printed on up to 350 g/m2 paper, which previously would have been output on our litho presses, with its high capacity and performance capabilities this new machine will prove to be more efficient and cost effective.’

Boss Direct operates from two sites in Bolton and Manchester. The print department equipment includes a ten colour and a five colour B2 Heidelberg Speedmaster, handling the bulk of the litho work, plus three Heidelberg GTOs and five Konica Minolta digital production printers to cover all other production. Also recent investment to bring all finishing in-house has seen the arrival of a new Osaka stitching line alongside multiple folding and finishing equipment.
