It’s Christmas…allegedly

Christmas is celebrated in many different ways around the world – some in more bizarre ways than others. Here are some facts (allegedly)…

In Japan, the Christmas dinner of choice is KFC!

Or, in Greenland, you can tuck into Kiviak, a delicious meal of raw auk flesh wrapped in seal skin and kept under a rock for several months to decompose. Yum!

In Iceland, the ‘Yule Cat’ (Jolakotturinn) is an angry monster that roams the streets and attacks the badly dressed (he hates the scruffy apparently)!

In Catalonia, the nativity scene has an extra character – the ‘Caganer’. Traditionally, he was depicted as a peasant, with his trousers down! Nowadays, he is also now available in many character forms, including Darth Vader (hmm, very Christmassy)!

In Venezuela, there is a custom of people roller skating to church! Of course! Why not?

On Earth Island, we have lots of traditions, but perhaps the one we like best of all is to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a successful and happy new year – wherever you are.
