Jones & Brooks will mark its 140th anniversary with a move into B2 litho production. It installs a Speedmaster SX 74-5+L, a five colour and coater, this month.

‘We have turned B2 work away until now so this press will enable us to add another service to our portfolio and to attract even more high quality contracts. The specification means we can add special colours and spot or full varnishes,’ said Ronnie Blair, managing director of the Rochdale company.

A B3 press, a Speedmaster SM 52-5 with Easy Control, has been a workhorse and produced very good quality so the decision to go with a Speedmaster again was straightforward. The company also runs two Quickmaster presses, Stahlfolders and Polar guillotines from Heidelberg.

The new Speedmaster SX 74 was chosen for the speed of machine delivery. By the end of March the press will be installed and the training completed. There are four operators already familiar with Heidelberg technology.

The operators will benefit from the use of Autoplate Pro simultaneous plate changing and Easy Control, a device which provides printers with no previous experience fast and easy entry into colour measurement technology. It is integrated into the press console so doesn’t impact on the press operator’s working space. From the touch screen on the Prinect Press Center all ink zones can be regulated.

The company is equipped with litho, flexo and digital equipment to meet diverse print needs.
