MGI Digital Technology has announced the exclusive world premieres of important new products for digital and offset applications at drupa 2016. The company will be in hall 5, stand D21.

New will be the AIS SmartScanner – touchless sheet registration artificial intelligence that does the work for you (and your operators).

The MGI AIS system is a revolutionary registration development for the printing and finishing industry:

  • Eliminates more than 80% of operator set up time spent on registration processes and dramatically reduces make ready waste.

  • Allows quick and seamless job workflow integration with simple, automatic ‘scan and register’ set up process.

  • Creates return on investment advantages with increased uptime, improved throughput, faster job completion and greater productivity.

  • Removes unnecessary operator wage costs and paper make ready waste associated with analogue set up processes.

The AIS system uses artificial intelligence to create an automatic varnish and hot foil registration for inkjet heads and each printed sheet. It is fully compatible with variable data finishing jobs. Using print image and inkjet synchronisation algorithms, the exclusive and patented AIS system runs at more than 5000 billion operations per second. Without operator intervention or a decrease in feeding speed, it makes corrections and adjustments for any defects generated by the original offset or digital printing run and any subsequent lamination process. At drupa 2016, more than five AIS SmartScanners will be demonstrated within several MGI Jetvarnish product configurations.

Also new is Meteor Unlimited Colors – A digital press with in line hot foiling that features the exclusive authentication hologram digital printing (AHDP) system.

This integration of MGI digital presses and iFoil digital hot foiling technology creates a new colour spectrum with the reflective light qualities of metallic coloured foils. The foil can be overprinted with the CMYK toner to create diverse colour tones and sparkling effects. A virtually unlimited number of colours can be produced. Single pass printing and foil enhancement makes many new profitable business opportunities available. The Meteor Unlimited Colors product series creates brilliant application effects on uncoated and textured papers, as well as on coated and offset papers.

AHDP, an MGI exclusive and patented system, produces on-demand holographic imprints with Meteor Unlimited Colors presses, specially formulated toner and foil films. The digital holographic effects offer customised security authentication options at a mere fraction of traditional costs. This powerful anti-counterfeiting method is now economically accessible without the need of expensive dies and lengthy tooling processes. AHDP also works in conjunction with variable data printing to create document identification applications.

With multiple different digital press configurations available, the Meteor Unlimited Colors product series can support paper sizes up to 330 x 1200 mm, paper weights up to 400 g/m2 and a wide variety of envelopes.

In addition to these products, MGI will show its full line of new digital printing and finishing equipment, including the latest Jetvarnish 3D Evolution, a spot UV coating and foiling solution for B1+ and smaller sheet formats. The entire Meteor digital press family and the Jetcard 3D inkjet card factory will also be running live production demos. All the products will run continuous and live demonstrations on the MGI stand in hall 5 (stand D21).
