London based City Printing has become the latest UK print business to equip itself with a PUR binder from Morgana Systems. The DigiBook 200 installation also included a Morgana AutoCreaser Pro 33 to further assist the post press operation.
Whilst managing director Michael Peters has been a big Morgana fan for some 20 years, his first venture with PUR binding had been with another supplier: ‘We had used a competitor’s machine, but we were not able to produce the ultra short runs as cost effectively as we had hoped. The DigiBook 200 is definitely a significant improvement – it requires minimal set up, produces minimal waste, and because of the sealed glue tank, you can produce a single copy of a publication and not waste huge amounts of adhesive.’

City Printing handles a wide range of digitally printed run lengths from one through to several thousand. The DigiBook 200 has proved to be both cost efficient and highly productive whatever the quantity.
‘We produced one job recently – a booklet with a run of 200 copies. We were able to print and bind the job in a single afternoon. We used to have to put PUR work out to a trade binder, so having this machine in-house effectively saved us over two days compared to the last time that we produced it!’
The company also added an AutoCreaser Pro 33 to its range of finishing equipment in order to crease publication covers prior to binding.
Michael continued, ‘Morgana is a great company to work with. The machines do exactly what they say they will do; the machines are reliable, simple to operate, the technical back up from the company is excellent, and, very importantly, they are really nice people!’
Digital printing at City Printing is created via a mix of Xerox, Ricoh, and OKI engines, producing a wide range of commercial work.
