In order to enable further growth, Herma UK has commissioned a new packaging machine for self-adhesive material at its headquarters in Newbury, Berkshire.

The new machine can prepare up to 60 pallets per hour for shipping.

At its headquarters in Newbury, Berkshire, self-adhesive materials specialist Herma has commissioned a fully automatic packaging machine. Previously, pallets for customers were manually wrapped and prepared for shipping by employees. The new automated packaging machine, which amounted to an investment of approximately £500,000, tackles this task automatically. This means that only one operator is required, which frees manpower to facilitate other areas – a very welcome effect since the company’s Self-adhesive Materials division, which has been growing steadily for years, is constantly expanding the business.

The new automated packaging machine produces 50 to 60 ready to ship pallets with rolls of self-adhesive materials per hour, and is running 24 hours per day in three shift operations.

Colin Phillips, divisional director of self-adhesive materials, stressed: ‘We now use less manpower in our despatch department, and we have increased our quantity as well as our quality. The new machine shrink wraps the pallets, making them stronger, tighter, and safer to ship to the customer.’

The UK company now uses a similar system to Herma in Germany, where €10 million were invested in a new packaging system five years ago. ‘We have already received feedback from customers who are very happy with the new improved quality, and we are now ready for increasing our output capacity with these recent investments,’ said Colin.

In January 2016, the company invested £500,000 in a new special slitting machine for plastic films, refined papers, and laminates.
