Oriel Printing Company has supplemented existing on-press filtration on its Speedmaster CD 102-7 with an additional beta.f unit from technotrans to reduce maintenance and enhance its print quality.
The UV trade printer produces work on plastic and foil board as well as a range of paper and board products from its Kingston upon Hull site.

‘Due to the wide range of substrates we print, the ink-water balance is critical, so we wanted to make sure our dampening solution was spot on,’ said managing director Richard Simms. ‘Conductivity levels raise over time which meant cleaning out the water tank and filters frequently. With the beta.f we believe we will reduce that maintenance work from fortnightly to quarterly and ensure quality consistency always.’
Oriel visited drupa and placed the order after discussions with technotrans’ sales manager Shaun Nayler. In Dusseldorf it also found another product which would extend its trade services and bought a Scodix Ultra Pro + Foil, a B2 machine that could digitally enhance print whether it was packaging, point of sale or commercial work.
The Scodix Ultra Pro offers UV based polymer varnishing and spot foiling. There is no need to create a foil blocking die and the Scodix will give a raised gloss foil finish in one pass.
‘The make ready is almost instant and we can handle high volumes as we need to,’ said Richard. ‘Both the technotrans and Scodix equipment have fully justified the trip to Dusseldorf and to the research work we did there to ensure we can help our customers have print that stands out from the crowd.’
