Brentwood based Schwartz Printing has upgraded its PUR binding solution from Morgana Systems to the top of the range DigiBook 450 model. The new system has replaced a two and a half year old DigiBook 150, and was purchased directly from Morgana Systems.
DigiBook 450 is the larger of the standalone PUR solutions provided by Morgana, and is capable of delivering up to 450 bound books per hour. The system to suited to both litho and digitally printed product.

Chris Futcher, director of Schwartz, said: ‘The DigiBook 150 served us well as a starting point for our own PUR solution, but our work load for the product has grown over time. The 450 incorporates much more automation, as well as offering a faster throughput, and can be run very effectively with just one operator.’
Initially Schwartz had made the move into PUR as demand grew for that style of binding, and whilst there were trade services available, Chris Futcher points out that you lose control of job delivery. ‘We were talking about a 20 mile trip for the job, and no real guarantee of having the job back in the time that we had specified. It made sense for us to make that initial investment, and it now makes sense for us to enhance our PUR capabilities as the demand for this type of work has increased.’
The DigiBook 450 perfect binding machine is ideally suited to litho and digital printers that require medium to long runs of PUR perfect bound books to a high standard. This innovative machine is equipped with a patented closed gluing system where the spine and side gluing is applied by a slot applicator for the utmost bringing quality and accuracy.
