Alongside a number of large scale investments planned for the first quarter of this year, leading print and packaging business, Qualvis, has recently taken delivery of a seven station custom collator from collation experts, Col-Tec. Aiming to ‘further boost capacity and quality’ at its Leicestershire site, Qualvis has a reputation for producing superior products and delivering exceptional service, with its cartons being used and trusted by some of the UK’s most well known brands.

The seven station custom sized collator is suction fed horizontally and can accommodate a maximum sheet size of 541 x 830 mm. The collator is fitted with automatic miss and double sheet detectors to ensure the integrity of the collated sets, with output being in the region of 2000 sets collated per hour or 14,000 sheets.

‘We have made the recent investment in the collating machine which ties in with our strategic direction of diversifying our core business offering. We have invested in Qualvis Innovations, Qualvis Digital and a new KBA press, so this latest addition just broadens our customer value proposition and opens up new markets for our business. From an efficiency angle, we used to have four staff hand collating sheets prior to the collator investment. Not only was this slow at 1200 sheets collated per hour, we also had the potential for errors and misaligning the sheets. With the collator installed we have 2 staff feeding and delivering the sheets at a benchmark rate of 6000 sheets per hour. This operational efficiency is alongside an improvement in quality and finishing,’ said Qualvis’ creative design director Richard Pacey.

Col-Tec provide solutions for all types of collating jobs, manufacturing highly versatile suction feed collators, booklet makers and associated optional equipment.

Their collators are robust, reliable and collate stock material and sheet sizes well outside the capability of other collators. Incorporating the most experienced and skilled collating machinery engineers in the world, Col-Tec has a solution for all collating applications.
