Handy Labels and Tags, part of the Handy Brand Group, is taking delivery of a Polar D80 at the end of this month. This reliable guillotine will supplement an existing Ideal cutter and enable the business to handle a wider range of product and higher volumes.

‘We needed a more substantial, robust machine which could handle a wide range of labels and tags which are printed on four and six colour digital presses or our wide format machine. It had to be able to handle paper, board and vinyl materials,’ said Martyn Kilford, director at Handy Labels and Tags.

The group, based at the Portishead Marina in Bristol, was established in 2009 and the printing business produces labels and tags for a wide range of businesses including hotel chains and retailers. Its bright websites (www.handylabels.co.uk and www.handytags.co.uk) include templates for products, making ordering very simple and transparent.

In its search for the right guillotine, Handy Labels and Tags undertook a visit to an existing user and seeing the machine in action was convincing.

‘It is robust and the deeper 800 mm deep stainless steel table with air jets will make the handling of product much easier. We also like the fact this guillotine cuts to a finer tolerance,’ said Michelle Jones, business manager.

On delivery, the operators will be given training to familiarise themselves with the operating display and the programmability with its 198 job memory. The Polar D80 is ideal for the one shift operation needed by the company and it features easy knife changing and minimal maintenance.
