National Apprenticeship Week saw Newham College hold its inaugural Apprenticeship Awards at the Good Hotel London.
The awards were organised to recognise the outstanding achievements of the employers and apprentices enrolled on the apprenticeship programme.

Organiser and director of Apprenticeships Neil Coates said, ‘We really wanted to say well done to the investment the businesses have put into their apprentices, which we hope will improve the productivity of their organisations.’
A total of 16 awards were given out over a range of categories.
Park employee, Charlie Pennington, won Business Administration and Customer Service Apprentice of the year 2017 and the top individual accolade, Newham College Apprentice of the year 2017.
Park’s support to the programme was recognised with the top business accolade Newham College Grand Apprenticeship of The Year 2017 and Business Administration and Customer Service Apprentice Employer of the year 2017.
Alison Branch, managing director at park, said: ‘A huge congratulations to Charlie, he has worked very hard and is a key member of the team. The management has also worked hard to ensure that the apprenticeship scheme works well. We are delighted to receive this recognition of the hard work.’
Charlie, now a full time employee, has completed his NVQ Level 2 and is currently working towards level 3. His manager, Roy Bidd, who is training and mentoring him through his apprenticeship, said: ‘Charlie created a really good first impression, he is extremely motivated and just gets on with everything thrown at him. He has been a full member of the team since day one and works really hard. I am very proud, he deserves these awards for all his hard work. The opportunities available to Charlie will mean that one day I hope he will take over my job!’
