The Reprographics Department at Lincoln based Bishop Grosseteste University has announced details of an investment in post press equipment consisting of a Morgana BM350 bookletmaker and DigiFold Pro ceasing and folding system.
Commenting on the purchase decision, Alan Stacey, reprographics manager at Bishop Grosseteste University, said: ‘We have been producing an increasing amount of booklet work for our university and the cost of placing this work with outside sources was steadily increasing to the point where it made sense for us to look at purchasing equipment in order to bring the work in-house. We looked at a number of suppliers, but Morgana was the one that ticked all of the boxes.

‘The BM350 is a proper commercial printers bookletmaking system. The air fed system provides for fast and efficient feeding of printed pages into the binder, and the squareback option gives that high quality look to our publications. It also makes them a lot easier to stack!’
Features such as the manual feed allow for very short run booklets – one or two copies – to be produced without any set up, although Alan is also very impressed with the software side of the system: ‘The software is easy to use with on-screen prompts to aid very fast and efficient job set up.’
The BM350 is capable of producing stitched booklets of up to 140 pages. The patented folding mechanism employed provides a sharp and professional finish. It can work with standard A4, A3, B4, SRA4, and SRA3 paper sizes, as well as custom sizes.
With regard to the DigiFold Pro, Alan added, ‘When it comes to creasing and folding work the DigiFold is a powerhouse – it copes with a wide range of stocks and is also very easy to set-up and to use.’ The department also uses the unit for perforating tasks.
Morgana DigiFold Pro employs an innovative creasing rule and matrix, the DynaCrease, that eliminates tearing and, therefore, cracking on a digitally printed sheet. By using this patented technology DigiFold Pro is able to crease and fold over 6000 A4 sheets an hour. This excellent throughput speed is achieved by creasing the sheet without stopping it, yet maintaining an accuracy of +/‐ 0.1mm.

Controlled by the same innovative seven inch SmartScreen panel as the rest of the Morgana Pro range, DigiFold Pro is instructed how long the sheet is and which crease and fold to produce. All settings and adjustments are made using the SmartScreen and, as only symbols are used, operation couldn’t be simpler.
In addition to providing a full range of print services to the university the Reprographics team also provide internal service and support 48 colour copiers and printers across the site. ‘Copiers and printers are of great value to our customers for very short runs, but for anything larger we are on hand to provide a fast and efficient printing service,’ said Alan.
