tesa’s innovative Lift & Reseal, a high tech tape developed for the effective reclosure of flexible packaging, is gaining a lot of interest from retailers and brands.

Freshness throughout the life of food products has become increasingly important to consumers, especially those with large families to support, and the avoidance of food waste is also an issue high on government’s agenda.

WRAP, the agency whose mission is all about a ‘resource revolution’, identified food and drink as one of three key priority areas alongside clothing and textiles and electricals and electronics. It points out that UK households are still throwing away 4.2 million tonnes of avoidable food waste annually, which is the equivalent of six meals every week for the average UK household.

tesa Lift & Reseal has already generated interest across many different segments of the food production and retail markets, including major retailers, pet food manufacturer and tea companies, as well as confectionery, dried food and fresh vegetable packagers. The company is now developing packaging solutions for manufacturers and retailers in the UK, Europe, Russia and Japan, delivering competitive edge through the consumer benefits of enjoying fresh food even across extended periods of use and storage.

To meet the increasing demand, the entire tesa sales force has undergone specialist training on Lift & Reseal applications so they are all well equipped to answer enquiries and offer solutions.

The solution utilises the company’s renowned expertise in the manufacture and marketing of adhesive tapes, with customers benefiting from a proven customer service philosophy based around the four P’s – ‘People, Products, Processes and Performance’.

Referring to the benefits of Lift & Reseal, Peter Spencer, specialist segment manager, Manufacturing, said: ‘Where other tapes provide limited reclosure, Lift & Reseal is designed to efficiently close packs more than 20 times, allowing consumers to reseal film based food packs for the product’s lifetime. The tape strip remains adhesive all the way down as the packaging reduces in size and remains effective even if the adhesive face becomes dusty, thus retaining the quality and freshness of the food items and reducing food wastage.’

The in line application works with a range of film based packaging solutions, including pouches, sacks, pillow packs, flow wraps and quad stabilo packs, giving consumers the ability to reseal the pack for the lifetime of its contents, with approximately 20 effective resealing actions. tesa engineers will provide a full, end to end installation service which includes the provision of a tape dispenser. Lift & Reseal is supplied spool wound for rapid integration on the production line.

Peter concluded, ‘Freshness through the ‘life’ of the product is paramount to our customers, who strive to deliver the very highest standards of healthy eating. Convenient packaging solutions have been identified as a key factor in the consumer’s product selection process and tesa is committed to working with customers to ensure they can meet the demand to satisfy their customers.’
