Flextrus is launching a new range of innovative tactile films for the food industry that deliver enhanced pack appeal for brands and retailers in the UK and Ireland.

The new range includes paper touch, rough, matt and gloss, and soft touch finishes and is aimed at the dairy industry, the meat market with a focus on cooked meats, poultry and bacon sectors, as well as the general foods market. Working as a complementary offering to the company’s range of PaperLite solutions, the film collection creates outstanding tactile performance allowing pack designers to deliver contemporary up to date pack effects, as well as creating mixed sensory pack appeal and unique graphics.

Cliff Gorst, UK and Eire sales director, said: ‘As a leader in the UK in barrier films, we understand the importance of stand out graphics and shelf appeal in delivering retail success. Flextrus has a good history of delivering customer driven innovation with its in house extrusion, manufacturing, and printing laminate solutions. However, we now have a great range of tactile coatings to extend our position as a leading print and packaging innovator.’

He continued, ‘Flextrus has five advanced wide web flexo presses, as well as two digital presses which are uniquely supported with immediate curing allowing faster turnaround for food contact laminates, the first in Europe and destined to enhance our offering for retailers and brands alike. We are also the only producer of high barrier multilayer nylon films in the UK, outside of the medical sector. We are therefore well placed with unique capabilities for our customers and the launch of the tactile range is the beginning of a new strategy for the company to speed up delivery of value added solutions that really count.’

The global specialty films market is set to grow 5.7% annually to reach $36.7 billion by 2021.

Cliff said, ‘We are working with a number of brands and converters on reverse printed and coated designs to drive up the aesthetic appeal of their packs. We also have use of off line gravure coating stations for added design flexibility if needed. Flextrus has numerous film laminate specifications to tailor to individual application needs, so all in all, we can really create truly customised pack designs to delight brands and their consumers.’

With a film manufacturing site in Highbridge, Flextrus UK works across the food and drink, pharmaceutical and healthcare, household and personal care markets delivering packaging solutions, which protect product quality, taste, aroma and freshness, with extended product shelf life.
