Colprint addresses bottleneck with CCM Premier 780

Colprint has picked a CCM Premier 780 guillotine from Terry Cooper Services to help it address a bottleneck in its finishing department.

The Birmingham litho print operation, which runs a Heidelberg five colour GTO and a two colour Hans Grohni, has a digital print sister operation called Set & Match. The two share finishing departments.

With an increase in smaller run, faster turnaround work, and the need to cut paper for the litho presses, the existing guillotine was struggling to handle the throughput.

Stuart Mills, managing director of Colprint, explained: ‘We just needed more capacity to help support our aging Polar guillotine. We did look at other options but liked the robust build of the CCM Premier. It is a very solid machine. We also liked its touch screen set up and value for money.’

The new CCM Premier 780 offers improved ergonomics that deliver a more efficient operation. A full colour 10” touch screen aids easy operator use and air side tables as standard enable smooth paper handling. Its deep clamp opening accepts more paper while the automatic knife, with clamp optimisation, reduces overall cutting time.

Totally enclosed knife change with monitored single shear bolt protection and turnbuckle adjustment, makes a fast, safe, easy knife change. There is also fully enclosed rear guarding.

Stuart continued, ‘It has made life easier already. We have moved the other guillotine into the litho area to cut paper. This means we don’t have to cut paper in the finishing area, move it into the pressroom, and then back. The CMM Premier can then handle the rest of the workload. The process is more streamlined and that has eased the bottleneck.’
