To meet the increasing demand from retailers, clubs and other organisations for a secure, personalised plastic card, KAS Paper Systems has developed an on line plastic card mailing system for short to medium runs. It is based on the Mailmaster envelope inserters and Enfolder carrier sheet folder, on line to a CIM plastic card affixing and matching system and a digital printer. The overall size of the system is relatively compact and modular and it operates on a standard, single phase power supply. It is available with bespoke features to meet customers’ specific requirements such as inline carrier sheet/letter printing, plastic card printing and embossing and multiple insert feeders.

With pre-printed plastic cards, the CIM reads a code or magnetic stripe which is used to print that recipient’s personalised letter including a 1D barcode for camera matching with the plastic card before it is attached.
The KAS Enfolder then folds the carrier and attached card, once for inserting into a C5 envelope or twice for a DL. For inserting the letter flat into a C4 envelope, the folding is bypassed. Multiple inserts can then be added from the side feeders before the envelopes are sealed and delivered onto the delivery table. The whole operation is controlled by one person.
For customers wishing to add business cards or small marketing items, KAS can supply its on line business card feeder to a card match/attach mailing line. This is located at right angles to the machine so that it is easy to control the feeding of the cards. It does not cover the track so that any mis-feeds can be seen and dealt with. Other machine features include insert feeders which can handle documents from a single sheet of 80 g/m2 paper up to 7 mm thick booklets as well as pre-folded and stapled items. For added security and mailing integrity, document tracking and exit reading can be incorporated into the machine.
KAS Paper Systems’ UK sales manager Steve Jarvis commented, ‘The first machines are already installed for clients looking for a compact and inline mailing solution for plastic card matching and attaching combined with ease of use, machine longevity, designed and manufactured in the UK.’
