Park Communications is to double its output with the move from a K800 MBO folder to the latest generation Stahlfolder KH 82-P.

The London printer provides end to end solutions from page make up, digital production, B1 litho, finishing and mailing services. The company produces report and accounts, fine art catalogues, high end property, fashion and retail marketing, Independent magazines and government reports.

‘We first saw this folder at drupa last year and we were struck by the fact it slowed down the mechanical running speed due to the new shingle feeder technology, but dramatically increased the overall output,’ said Paul Walker, deputy managing director.

‘For us, quality is critical because we often have images running across the spine, so the folding has to be perfect. This technology gives us the control and the ability to achieve a new level of productivity. We involved our operators in trials, carried out in Germany using our own printed sections, to ensure quality and productivity can be achieved, and we were all very impressed.’

The fully automated combination version of the new high output ‘P’ machine gives Park Communications a full range of folder impositions and very fast make readies.

‘Finishing has to keep up with the pressroom. We need overall efficiency and reduced bottlenecks. The new folder will run on Continental shifts from the start,’ said Paul. ‘Although the folding process is invisible to customers, for them this investment means we can be sure of the quality, while meeting the tighter deadlines expected.’
