Initially purchased to work in tandem with its newly installed HP30000 printing system, Kalas Packaging has found other uses for its also recently installed Omega Allpro 70 folder gluer, manufactured by Duran Machina and supplied by UK and Ireland agent Friedheim International.

Managing director of Kalas, Jonathan Padley explained: ‘Our core business became focused on horticulture about eight years ago, and we are now one of two specialist companies offering special products in the sector. The business is all about turnaround times – days not weeks – hence the decision on the HP system, ably supported by the Allpro.

‘However, the Allpro Is so flexible that it is also proving its worth tackling products destined for the pharmaceutical and healthcare markets, some of which are very bespoke, and this development has come as an unexpected bonus.’

Based in Boston Kalas Packaging was formed 30 years ago as a jobbing printers, concentrating on producing business cards, letterheads and general stationery items. From there the company progressed to magazines and leaflets and then into packaging with carrier bags, before finally becoming the fully fledged carton printer it is today.

‘Apart from its build quality and renowned reliability,’ said Jonathan, ‘another reason why we chose the Omega Allpro folder gluer is its in line Braille facility, which is not available in this configuration on most other similar types of machines. The reason we chose the 70 version of the Allpro was for the 720 mm sheet size that it can handle, which is what the bulk of our production is based on.
