As part of Blake’s continued focus on growth through development, investments have recently been made into the acquisition of an envelope manufacturing plant in Telford, UK.

Blake’s strategic move to invest in envelope manufacture was based on a number of factors:

  • Supporting the resurgence of UK based manufacturing to facilitate economic growth.

  • Current challenging economic climate as a result of Brexit and subsequent impact: currency fluctuations due to the weakness of the pound and the possibility of increased import duties and customs border delays.

  • To meet the ever increasing service demands of Flexo and bespoke envelope manufacture.

This latest acquisition will equip the business with the capabilities of producing an additional 300 million envelopes per year, on top of the two billion envelopes they currently sell on an annual basis.

This is highlighted by Blake’s managing director, Michael Barter: ‘This new plant, coupled with our sophisticated digital print production, means we can now cater to quantities from 50 to five million bespoke printed envelopes; providing the necessary flexibility to meet the needs of the market.

‘We have seen an increasing demand from our customers for high quality printed mailing wallets produced in the UK, to flexible order quantities with a fast delivery. Providing an adaptable, relevant service is something that has always been at the heart of our strategic objectives. So, this latest acquisition ensures we are in a strong position to meet the needs of our customers, in what is an increasingly challenging time.’

This marks yet another exciting development for Blake, as well as a significant step in the right direction towards strengthening UK based manufacturing.
