Weston-super-Mare based UK Bookbinders has installed a Komfi Delta 52 thermal laminator from Friedheim International.
With a host of finishing equipment from sewing and guillotines to three MBO B30 folders as well as an MBO T800 folder, the company added an Horizon binder and trimmer earlier this year.
Lee Gray, general manager, said: ‘We were looking for our first step into a new service to enable faster turnaround for our customers and also enable us to extend a more comprehensive offering that would complement the work we already undertake. After several months of research into what our customers would like and have a requirement for we decided that lamination was a box ticked more often than any other.’

He continued, ‘Following a demonstration we were impressed with its ease of set up, versatility, build quality and small footprint. It was paramount that a certain level of automation and user friendliness was present and when compared to other offerings this model was nominated as the most compatible with our requirements. The B2 model was deemed the most suitable for our initial foray into this market. We also have customers who have Komfi machines and they were very complementary.’
The Komfi is the first laminator that UK Bookbinders has installed in a bid to lower costs and to see the benefits of bringing the process in-house. Although the equipment wasn’t purchased for any specific contracts it was felt that adding the service will allow the company to win additional contracts and attract customers who want the specialist applications that the device can offer.
