Love is never how it is on the big screen. It’s not always someone you initially hate, you don’t always fall for your childhood friend, and if your first kiss was anything but awkward, you are either lying or incredibly lucky – I mean, come on be honest!
So, let’s meet our main characters. He is Luke, and she is Leia. The main characters are called Luke and Leia! Weird, right...? Leia’s parents are Star Wars fans, in case you were wondering. But, don’t let the cheesiness of the names put you off though, because the story is anything but a cliché.
It’s About Love is about, you guessed it, love! The characters and the plot feel relatable as Steven Camden works his way through the narrative. As Luke and Leia are part of the same film class, the book is writ- ten partially in film script form. And of course, naturally, there are some film refer- ences, but not so many that a novice would need to have Google at the ready to look up a load of unfamiliar terms.
At first, it seems like Luke and Leia are perfect for each other, but certain things get in the way (just like a certain something in Star Wars’ Luke and Leia). We also learn about the char- acters’ (sometimes troubled) pasts, families, and things that makes them...well, them!
The reader is treated to excerpts from Luke’s journal, as well as a first person point of view, so we are always inside Luke’s head. We get a good sense of his quirky personality by the way that he talks and acts. Certain words and phrases are typical of today, which will make any reader feel like Luke is one of their schoolmates.
Let’s be real, there will never be enough advice out there on how to deal with love, because love will not always be the same with every person you meet. Who knows? Maybe It’s About Love will teach you some lessons about the journey of the heart that you didn’t know you needed to learn.
Steven Camden is not only a novelist, but also a spoken word poet under the name of Polarbear. In fact, he has many strings to his bow, with writing radio plays, and teaching the art of storytelling in schools and more. This makes him a master of numerous styles of writing – nice! What’s more, his first novel, Tape, sold over 2000 copies!
It’s About Love is out now – and it has lots of heart!
